Birmingham College Regulations, Policies, Terms & Conditions of Admission
The following terms and conditions apply to all courses and programmes run by Birmingham College
All applicants must apply only through the appointed representatives of the College or the College office directly. Students must check the authorisation of the representative before applying to the College. Please check the College website (www.bcol.co.uk) for a list of our representatives. The list is also available on request.
The College is not liable for any claim made by the applicant who has applied through unauthorised agents, organisations and individuals
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Students are strongly advised never to give money to any agent or individual not officially authorised by Birmingham College. The College does not accept cash payments for tuition fees etc., and not accept any liability for refund. All fees must be sent direct to Birmingham College bank account either through a Bankers Draft, cheque or direct transfer. The College does not accept any liability for refunds, where students have paid their college fees in cash or any other form to any authorised agent of Birmingham College, unauthorised agent, individual or organisation as these agents are not authorised to accept cash fees on the College behalf.
Acknowledgement of receiving fees mentioned in any document issued by the College simply indicates that these fees have been received by the agent and does not mean the College has received any fees from the students and does not accept any form of liability for such fees or any refunds for whatever reason
It should also be noted that any agent approached by you with a view to securing a place at the college whether such agent be an authorised agent as authorised by the college to administer such applications or not imposes no liability whatsoever upon the college and the college does not accept any responsibility for monies paid to such agent or any representations warranties or statements made by such agent
Once the applicant accept the conditional admission offer / place on any course / programme offered by the College, the applicant accept the terms and conditions of the College and is agreed of obeying it throughout the process of completion of the admission and study of the course.
A record of attendance is kept for each student, which reflects his or her academic performance. Students must to attend their classes according to their timetable and required number of hours. A student will not be allowed to take an examination if their attendance record falls below 80% of the required hours. In the case of difficult circumstances, the College must be informed immediately to seek advice. In case of an illness of three days or more, a Medical Certificate is required. Extra classes may be necessary to make up the loss of hours and the student will have to bear the extra cost.
Being late for classes is detrimental to the academic programme of the latecomer and disruptive for the entire class. Teachers will report latecomers to the Record Office. Students who come to their classes more than 15 late may be considered absent. Habitually absent students must explain in writing the reasons for their poor attendance record. Admission Office may suspend students from the College without any liability to the College
(To meet Home office regulations,) full time students must attend daytime classes for 15-21 hours per week, Monday - Friday, depending upon their curricula. Extra time from students of Information Technology is expected for their personal benefit. The College reserves the right to alter dates/course modules in order to facilitate or improve the provision of the course and its examinations. Any such changes will not affect the College regulations.
The College provides students, where applicable, with the relevant course materials. Students must bring their textbooks and other courses materials which form an essential part of their class work to their class.
The College assists students in acquiring recommended textbooks and relevant material at reasonable costs. However, some reference material is available at the library for consultation. Students should also arrange other stationery materials for their needs.
Only students who complete their attendance requirement, do not have any pending financial dues or are not barred by the Administration due to disciplinary problems and/or have no discrepancies in their academic record, are allowed to take periodic examinations, provided the Head of their Department has recommended them for taking such exams.
Usually the College informs, advises and assists students in different external examination entry procedures, but it is the responsibility of students to keep themselves informed and prepared for such examinations as recommended by the College - and register with these authorities as Student Members well in time. Students pay all student examination and membership fees. The College does not charge any fee for facilitating students for these memberships
The College expects its students to behave as responsible mature persons and act with-in the moral norms of society while attending the College or anywhere else as a "College-student". Misconduct may result in suspension of the student from the College. In such cases, no refund of fees will be given and any outstanding tuition fees and charges will be payable in full.
Use of drugs/tobacco is prohibited on the College premises.
The College reserves the right to dismiss any student at any time for behaviour which is deemed to be unprofessional, inappropriate or disruptive to other students. No fees will be refundable for any student dismissed under this section. The College reserves the right to inform the appropriate authorities where a student has been dismissed from the College.
The College provides the necessary documents to the Home Office for extension of student visas, upon the request of those students who have paid their dues in full. Such documents will not be issued to students who pay their fees in instalments. However the College may assist by handling their visa extension application. The college will not issue documents, E.g. attendance certificate, progress report, registration details, visa extension related papers to students suspended from the College. The college may issue records/documents of the suspended student to the Home Office only if the suspended student paid the full fees.
A student paying by cheque into a U.K. bank must allow at least 8 working days for the cheque to clear and 28 working days for a foreign country bank draft to be cleared, before becoming eligible or claim any action by the Accounts Section to process the case of a student for which he has made the payment. Students will be charged a £30.00 processing fee if cheque or local draft is returned and not honoured to the College on deposit to its account. The fee is £50 in case of a foreign draft.
- For International Students, all fees must be paid in advance. However, fees can be paid in two instalments. (Local students can pay in instalments as per agreement by the College.)
- The minimum course duration is one year.
- A surcharge of 10% on the full fee is paid with the first instalment which must be half the full fee. The first instalment must be paid before the course commences.
- The second instalment must be paid after six months of the course commencing.
- An instalment agreement form is signed
- The College reserves the right to suspend students without notice from attending classes if their fees are in arrears.
- Students not completing their studies for any reason will not be eligible for a refund, discount or credit and will be charged the outstanding fees even if they stop attending the courses for whatever reason.
- The student is responsible for ensuring that he/she has understood the costs involved in taking their selected course.
- After the course commencement, no amendment can be made to the tuition fee as stated on the Letter of Acceptance\Enrolment.
- No course changes\deferments can be authorised after overseas students have been granted a visa. The College will notify the U.K. immigration authorities and the visa issuing authority
- After the commencement of the course, students not reporting to the College or failing to inform the College of their visa application status, will be reported to the visa issuing authorities as no longer having a place on the course.
- Tuition fees do not include other fees such as examination or books.
- Enrolment on the course creates a binding agreement to follow the course and to pay the full fee.
- All information and prices provided on the college’s website, on enrolment forms and through other promotional channels is believed to be correct at the time of printing but is subject to change at the discretion of the College. Changes will be displayed on the College notice board and / or on the website.
- Fees are published separately for each term / intake and are payable by all students studying at the time - unless they have paid their fees in full prior to the publication of the new fees. Paying a deposit does not prevent any fee increase being applied.
You may remit the fee by one of the following methods:
- Banker’s draft or cheque made payable to "The GLOBED LIMITED" Or ‘Birmingham College’ and posted to the College Registered Office using a reliable postal service. NOTE: This address is different to that of the education site. (Put in address?)

- No fees are refundable to international students if, after the commencement of a course, the student stops attending the classes or leaves the course before its completion, or he/she is suspended by the College due to non-attendance or misconduct, or a legal prosecution by the law enforcing authorities.
- British residents having no visa requirements to remain in the UK, may claim the refund for paid tuition fees, less administrative charges of £250, (The College Office must receive a written request from the student for cancellation of admission, at least one month in advance before the commencement of the Course.) If the College Office does not receive the notice on time, 50% of the course fees will be deducted.
- A student who requires a Student Visa to enter or remain in the UK, will be entitled to a refund of the tuition fee if his/her visa application is refused and does not wish to re-apply for a visa. To get a refund, the student (the applicant) must fulfil the following terms and conditions.
- The applicant is responsible for completing the following procedures to get a refund. In case of working with authorised representatives of the College, the applicant must get proof from the representative showing the College has been informed. If applying through the College, please get a receipt of the proof.
- The Applicant must inform the College directly in writing within 3 days of the date of the refusal letter issued by the British Embassy. Proof of informing the College is compulsory in order to get a refund.
- The Applicant must send the refusal letter from the British Embassy (APP200) and the original documents of admission issued by the College with a request of the refund to the College office within 2 weeks of the date of the refusal letter issued by the British Embassy. If the application and the required documents reach the College after two weeks, 33% of the course fee will be deducted from the refund amount. The application for the refund must be sent by the applicant to the College by recorded delivery / special deliver / currier and the receipt issued must be kept for a proof.
- The College is not liable for any refund after four weeks of the refusal letter issued by the British Embassy and will not pay any refund after four weeks.
- In case of fee transfer from any other College / University, no fee is refundable.
- If the student gets a visa and is not willing to attend the course / College, the deposited fee will not be refunded.
- If the student is granted unconditional admission by the College and he/she changes his /her mind about coming to the College and doesn't appear for visa, only half of the deposited fee will be refunded if the request reaches the College before the commencement of the Course. If such a request reaches the College after the commencement of Course, only 25% of the deposited fee will be refunded.
- Only 50% fees paid are refundable if any course not conducted by the College.
- A minimum of 6 weeks is required to process the refunds on receipt of the refund application with required documents, according to the rules.
- No interest or profit is claimable upon any refund payments.
- No refunds are considered when students in the U.K. have postponed the commencement of their course.
- The College reserves the right to change or amend any refund procedures at their discretion. All refunds are subject to the approval by the College Principal.
- Once letters of confirmation have been issued to third parties confirming full-time status, no refunds or course transfers are permissible other than in the instance of Visa refusal.
- All deposits are non-refundable, and cannot be transferred to later start dates or to other students.
- A charge of £50 will be made to students for all dishonoured payments. The College reserves the right to report offenders to their professional body.
Maintenance payments may be remitted to the credit of the College bank account. If full annual maintenance is received by the College, a refund will be made in 3 equal instalments, each of the instalments being released during the first week of each academic term.
Where there is a credit balance on a student’s account, then this will be settled at the end of a period of study at the College.
Students must be at least 16 years old to study at Birmingham College
The College reserves the right to cancel any advertised courses and to change any aspect of a course including availability of the course, course dates, curriculum, tutors and study material at any time and without prior notice.
These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in all respects in accordance with the laws of England. Any dispute, controversy or claim arising out of or in connection with these its breach, termination or invalidity shall be settled by the laws of England.
