Programme Description
A nationally recognised and flexible qualification from EDEXCEL Awarding Body that enables candidates to gain a qualification that relates directly to their management role within the Care organisation. This valuable qualification is recognising the skills of care / nursing home managers, health administrators, and candidates could progress into professional employment in social work.
The NVQ Level 4 in Care enables managers to gain a competency-based qualification, which meets the national minimum standards for best practice in this area. The award is a higher-level qualification, which includes the broad range of care skills at this level. The award brings together and recognises the mix of advanced practitioner work functions, with first line management responsibilities. The award at this level involves complex technical or professional work with a substantial degree of personal autonomy and responsibility. This might include responsibility for the work of others and the allocation of resources. Examples of practitioners for whom this award would be relevant include: Leaders of care teams, managers in residential care establishments, who do not have a formal qualification.
All the tutors and the assessment team still ensure their occupational competence is maintained by undertaking duties in their specific areas of expertise.Students will develop skills relevant to the care sector which are practical and up to date, with natural experiential learning taking place.
The health services is one of Britain's biggest employers with approximately 1.2 million employed by the NHS and approximately 0.7 million in the private sector. As issues surrounding health and well-being continue to be a priority in our lives, so the career opportunities in the field of Health continue to develop and expand. With the UK Government fully committed to increase funding for health and social care, employment prospects in this sector will continue to grow.
Studying this course in the UK can create a chance for employment in the Heath and Social Care Sector in the UK and other developed countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and America as this qualification is widely recognised all over the world. Due to quality of education in the UK and worldwide status of the EDEXCEL awarding body, this qualification is accepted by the Health and Care Industry every where in the World.
There are very high employment prospects within this rapidly growing sector in the UK economy. Many leading recruitment agencies have recognised the need to attract workers from overseas to meet the shortfall of recruits within the UK.
As with any NVQ, the qualification is a competence-based programme and candidates are required to demonstrate competence and specific knowledge and understanding across a defined range of standards.
You will be a professional in management, nursing, social work, social care, or with a related qualification. You may be a manager of a residential or nursing home or be responsible for joint planning with other professionals. Overseas students must have obtained BSc in Nursing or Master in Social Work or Master in Social Care or MBA or equalant to these masters.
It is desirable that the delegate has already attained a relevant level 3 qualification.
For students whose first language is not English an English language score of IELTS 6.00 or equivalent is required with at least 5.0 in reading and writing. Students will be required to take a short language test during their induction week.
This qualification is designed for all staff in management roles employed in the adult care sector, including deputy and assistant managers. Following the introduction of national registers for residential care managers in 2003, it is now necessary for managers to hold a qualification accepted for registration. This programme will enable students to meet the requirements of the National Minimum Standards for registered care services (as set by the Care Standards Act 2000).
The programme covers people management, budget management and quality issues. It is based on standards developed by Skills for Care, part of the Sector Skills Council. By allowing managers to review current best practice and develop their skills accordingly, the qualification will enable them to provide the best possible service to their clients. Because the qualification offers a good range of units to choose from, it can be tailored to the needs of each individual. It also links closely to the quality assurance requirements of Investors in People (IiP) accreditation, allowing homes to work towards both awards simultaneously.
