Exclusively designed for individuals aiming at university education / professional training and a career in the UK or abroad
The course is aimed at all international and EU students who
- have not passed IELTS with the required score or
- have not achieved their qualification(s) through English Language as a medium of instruction or
- are planning to go to a British university or
- are hoping to gain professional qualifications or
- want to improve English Language to work and study in the UK
The attendance of the course is a compulsory requirement of a minimum of 80% of the course. The course is delivered 16-22 hours a week in the form of classes, seminars, workshops, visits and one-to-one tutorials.
Assessment is by coursework (40%): a 2,000-word researched essay and oral presentation; and by final examinations (60%): unseen essay examination, listening and note-taking examination (based on an academic lecture), and reading skills examination, all taking place in the final week of the term.
It is expected to do about 10 hours of self-study per week
Applicants who do not have an IELTS or TOEFL score can take the College’s English Language Test in order to meet the entry requirements of the course.

Students could take an exam at a local IELTS centre at an additional fee charged by the IELTS exam centre. The College will provide all help and support needed for registration.
Students who wish to join Staffordshire University’s PG Diploma / MBA programmes will be assessed by staff from Birmingham College / Staffordshire University after completion of the programme. Students do not require taking IELTS to enrol on PG Diploma/MBA course if the required level of English is met.
Birmingham College will award “Diploma in English as a Foreign Language + IELTS Preparation” to students upon successful completion of the course
A scholarship up to £500 will be offered to all students enrolling first time on the course.
