Our aim is to help students with a low level of English to achieve their academic and professional goals by providing a high level of fluency and expression in the English language.
To make the most of your time in Birmingham, you will need a very good command of the English language. If your level of proficiency is low, it is advisable to join our `English Language Foundation Programme'.
English Language Foundation Programme is designed for flexibility to allow you to choose the length of time you need to adapt to your new living and study environment. It combines intensive language tuition with teaching in the subject area you would like to study at the College. It helps you find ways to manage the large amount of information, develop and improve academic writing and speaking skills.
You can enrol for a minimum of three or a maximum of six weeks.
Tutors use authentic materials adapted for the students' specific needs in the academic environment. Texts are drawn from textbooks, journals and newspapers and listening material is recorded from television and radio.
There is an exam at the end of the course through an assignment or essay. A good pass in these assessments is sufficient evidence for admissions tutors that you are ready for college study and you do not need to sit external exams such as IELTS or TOEFL.
To reach the required level of IELTS 5.5 (TOEFL 525), you can choose one of the following options.
