'Publication of the books of British Gujarati writers under the supervision of Head of Gujarati Language and literature department Saurashtra University Professor Shantilal Jani is surely a laudable act. Professor Jani has an important role in grooming the talent of the British Gujarati writers and taking their work to the people', she said.

Prof Balvant Jani said Gujarati Diaspora writers had been writing since 1962 on different topics; especially those writers who had come from Indian Gujarat and Africa had greatly served the Gujarati language and literature that include all literary genres as well as journalism.

He told that he has been working for the last three years on 'Gujarati diaspora writing project' which would be completed by the next year. The works of these writers is being published in a series under the project and so far eight volumes of Gujarati diaspora writings edited by him, have been published while another eight volumes would soon be coming.

He expressed satisfaction over the Gujarati literary works being produced in Britain. He said it was necessary to bring the work of good writers living here to the fore as they are very little known here and in Gujarat while they duly deserve to be recognised at mainstream level. For this seminars and conferences should be organized besides creating readership, he suggested.60 to 65 thousand pounds scholarships to students coming from India. Besides, he also extends financial help in various projects for Gujarati migrants. When professor Jani contacted him about his project he liked the idea and agreed to sponsor.

Earlier, Editor Asian Voice CB Patel and Monica Kapil Mohta performed the books launching. Dr. Desai presented bouquets to the guests. A large number of Gujarati diaspora community memebrs attended the function and termed it a good effort.

London (Special Correspondent) - Gujarati expatriate poets and writers in Britain have an important role in promotion of Gujarati language. This was stated by the participants of a ceremony held to launch books written by eight Gujarati writers and poets under 'The Gujarati Diaspora writings in Britain' at Nehru Centre the other day.

Director of the centre Monika Kapil Mohta said, 'Gujarati expatriate community has contributed a lot in development of the society. This community maintains its deep relations with its language and culture even in Britain that keep deepening through generations.

Prof Balvant Jani said, 'Besides, Gujarati women writers are also producing very good literature especially the third generation writers have opted Gujarati to express themselves in their prose, poetry and short stories'.

He thanked Director of the Centre for arranging the first Gujarati books launching ceremony. The writers whose books were on display included Rajnikant Mehta, Balvant Nayak, Dahyabhai Patel, Jagdish Dave, Adam Tankarvi, Pankaj Vora, Deepak Bardolikar, Vallabh Nadha and others.

Professor Jagdish Dave MBE said it were the efforts on the part of Professor Jani that people came to know about the presence of Gujarati writers in Britain.

He noted that though many different languages are spoken in South Asia but their cultural roots are same and that is the basic point that could bring all to one platform. He said it is the responsibility of the government, associations and all of us to bring out the writings of the writers settled here.

He disclosed that to keep the second and third generation abreast of their language he has written many books to learn Gujarati language and trained two thousand teachers to teach Gujarati language in 250 centres through out the world.

Adam Tankarvi said publication of books by Gujarati Diaspora writers in India, would introduce these writers in literary circles of Gujarat. This would bridge the gap and crop up contacts between the writers of both countries.

Principal Birmingham College Dr. Govind Desai said when he came here one helped him which fact he could never forget. Keeping this in mind he offers
